Windmill Development Group ("Windmill") is a visionary company
dedicated to transforming traditional development practices by using a
triple bottom line approach to our projects. This ensures that strong ecological,
social and financial returns are achieved in all of our projects. Everything
that we do is conceived, designed and constructed to protect and enhance
the local community and its ecosystems. This is done by incorporating innovations
in land use, water, air, energy, design, waste management and smart building
technologies.
Changing the Paradigm
We believe that developers have a responsibility
to be positive agents of change, and are committed to changing the
current development paradigm.
We are doing this is a variety of ways. We strive to be the driving
force behind the creation of a landmark portfolio of "green" real
estate that
demonstrates competitive advantage over the traditional real estate
model for the long-term. This provides people with positive and
achievable examples
of how development can, and should, be happening.
Building the Movement
We also are deeply committed to building the green
development movement. Windmill team members spend a great deal of time
hosting training
seminars and workshops, being active on various boards and committee's,
and
actively contributing to their local communities. Windmill aims
to have all of our
projects be positive reflections of the needs, ethic, and nature
of the communities in which they are located. We are leaving
a green legacy
for
future generations.

Buildings have a tremendous impact on our lives and the environment.
The average North American citizen spends 80 to 90% of their lives in buildings.
Buildings use 1/3rd of our total energy, 2/3rd of our electricity, and
are responsible for 16% of our freshwater withdrawals. They produce 30%
of greenhouse gas emissions and generate 136 million tons of construction
and demolition waste in the U.S. each year (EBN News May 2001). An estimated
3 billion tons of raw materials are used annually to construct buildings
worldwide (Natural Capitalism, Hawkin and Lovins). |
